Chemokine ligand 4 (CCL4) is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family that is commonly known as MIP-1 beta. There are at least 27 distinct members of the C-C subgroup reported for mammals. They are characterized by two adjacent cysteines.CC chemokines induce the migration of monocytes and other cell types such as NK cells and dendritic cells. CCL4 (MIP-1 beta) is a chemo attractant for natural killer cells, monocytes and a variety of other immune cells. CCL4 is involved in several inflammatory and autoimmune diseases including viral infection such as HIV-1/AIDS.
