 Viomellein isolated from Aspergillus sulphureus is genotoxic mycotoxin which has gram-positive antibacterial and insecticidal activity.

The fungal quinones, viomellein might play a causal role in mycotoxic porcine nephropathy, although these metabolites so far have not been encountered as natural contaminants of feed-stuffs.
