The dye Cibacron Blue F3GA is a sulfonated polyaromatic compound that has a high affinity for many proteins and enzymes. In the immobilized form the dye is used as an affinity chromatographic medium to separate and purify a variety of proteins including dehydrogenases, kinases, serum albumin, interferons, several plasma proteins, and a host of other proteins. Cibacron Blue F3GA displays diversity in binding several unrelated classes of proteins and as a result has been applied in studies as chromophore itself and also as immobilized ligand.

In a study Cibacron Blue F3G-A has shown the ability to rapidly, in one step, sequester, concentrate and protect from proteolytic degradation low molecular weight proteins and peptides from serum, thereby allowing the analysis of low-abundance labile biomarkers.
