S-100 alpha protein purified from porcine brain. The S-100 proteins are acidic Ca binding proteins found predominately in glial cells. Evidence indicates that upon binding to Ca, S-100 proteins expose a hydrophobic domain to the solvent in a manner similar to calmodulin. Also reported to regulate, within the cell walls, adenylate cyclase, aldolase activities, ATPase, microtubules, and protein phosphorylation. Product is not for animal treatment use, in vivo research or in other contact procedures involving livestock.
