Platencin is more potent than its analogue, platensimycin. Platencin shows potent in vivo efficacy without any observed toxicity. Platencin targets two essential proteins, b-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) synthase II (FabF) and III (FabH) whereas platensimycin targets only FabF.
