肺间质中的大多数细胞是成纤维细胞。肺成纤维细胞除与普通的成纤维细胞类似外,它们还有自身的一些特点,如具有较长的分支过程和缝隙接合。其主要的功能是产生III型胶原,弹性蛋白和肺泡隔细胞外基质中的蛋白多糖。在肺受损后,PF在肺修复和重构中有着重要作用。炎症损伤后局部成纤维细胞的积聚对于组织的修复至关重要。纤维细胞积聚不足或者过多都能导致组织功能异常。例如,在组织低氧造成肺动脉高压的过程中所观察到的外膜增厚就是成纤维细胞过度增殖导致的。
人肺成纤维细胞提取于人肺组织,原代冻存。每管含有细胞数>5×105 cells/ml,此细胞通过Fibronectin免疫荧光染色验证,经测试不含有HIV-1、HBV、HCV、支原体、细菌、酵母和真菌。细胞可以达到15倍增。
