Description
The ViPrimePLUS Haemophilus influenzae qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Haemophilus influenzae genomes in clinical samples (e.g. nasopharyngeal swab, bronchoalveolar lavage and cerebrospinal fluid).
Haemophilus influenzae is a Gram negative coccobacillus that resides in the mucosal membrane of the nasopharynx. It is the common cause of the community acquired pneumonia (CAP), aside from Streptococcus pneumoniae. In addition to that, H. influenzae, S. pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis are responsible for most of the bacterial meningitis cases. H. influenzae is further classified into two types: 1) encapsulated, which includes the highly pathogenic H. influenzae b (Hib), and 2) non-capsulated, which causes non-invasive infections. Hib infection is more prevalent in children causing bacteremia and acute bacterial meningitis. The non-encapsulated type is found more commonly in *****s, causing pneumonia.
