The ViPrimePLUS Escherichia coli qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of all Eecherichia coli species genomes in faecal, food or water samples.
Escherichia coli (E. coli) refers to a diverse group of Gram negative bacteria that resides in the animal and human intestinal tract. Most of them serve as the normal flora in a healthy intestinal tract but some strains are pathogenic. Mode of transmission is normally through contaminated food and water source. The pathogens are divided into 6 pathotypes, i.e. Enterohemorrhagic E. coli(EHEC), Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), Enteropathogenic E. coli, (EPEC), Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC), Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC) and Diffusely adherent E. coli (DAEC). EHEC pathotype, which is also known as Shiga-toxin or Verocytotoxin producing E. coli, is responsible for most of the foodborne outbreaks. E. coli O157:H7 is a serotype from the group where it produces Shiga toxin that causes bloody diarrhea. Normally, the condition is self-limiting with low mortality risk if treated properly. The more severe complications include hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) in children where it breaks up red blood cells, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) condition in *****s that aggregates blood cells, blocking small vessels thus eventually causing anemia.
