Description
The ViPrimePLUS Cryptococcus neoformans qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Cryptococcus neoformans genomes in clinical samples (e.g. cerebrospinal fluids, organ tissue and respiratory fluids).
Cryptococcus neoformans is a yeast-like fungus that causes Cyptococcosis, a pulmonary infection leading to pneumonia, meningitis, meningoencephalitis and other disseminated diseases, particularly in immunocompromised patients. In healthy individuals, colonization of the fungi in the respiratory airway can be harmless due to the ability of the immune defense to rid the progression of the infection. The fungi can be found in soil, thus inhalation of the spore into the lung allows primary infection to take place. Dissemination of the infection to the central nervous system and other parts of the body is not uncommon. Treatment of the pulmonary infection is via the administration of anti-fungal medicine.
