Description
The ViPrimePLUS Salmonella enterica qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of the Salmonella enterica genomes in clinical samples (e.g. faeces), food or water samples.
Salmonella enterica is a Gram negative bacterium that comprises of more than 2500 serovars, classified based on their types of surface antigens, lipopolysaccharide (O antigen) and flagellar structures (H antigen). However, only a few showed substantial relevance to human. Salmonella infection causes different illnesses in humans depending on their unique pathogeneses. S. enterica serovar Typhi causes vomiting, diarrhoea and followed by typhoid fever, which may lead to intestinal haemorrhage and organ inflammation. S. enterica serovar Typhimurium and Enteritidis cause gastroenteritis, which includes vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. These symptoms are normally self-limiting, with only mortality risk on people with weakened immune system and infants without proper treatment. Subtypes that are of veterinary relevance are Gallinarum (chicken), Choleraesuis (swine), Dublin (cattle) and Marina (reptiles).
