Description
The ViPrimePLUS Staphylococcus aureus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus genomes in clinical swab samples of the skin scab, throat, nose, groin, perineum and wound.
Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram positive, cocci bacterium that resides in the mucosal layer and moist skin area, particularly in nose, axilla and perineum. About 30% of the human population is colonized by the commensal pathogen without any symptoms. Due to the large reservoir and the ease of transmission via skin contact, S. aureus is considered a nuisance in hospital settings. This nosocomial infection causes postoperative wound infection, superficial abscesses, boils, Ritter disease, osteomyelitis, septicemia, toxic shock syndrome and pneumonia. MRSA is a group of S. aureus resistant to penicillin, methicillin and a narrow range of antibiotics due to the acquisition of mecA gene. MSSA (methicillin susceptible S. aureus) refers to the non-methicillin resistant strains. Stronger antibiotics are being sought after, as intermediate resistant strain against vancomycin was found. Besides, its interbreeding nature with some community staph produces the invasive and resistant community-acquired MRSA. Therefore, screening and control of antibiotic usage are essential to contain the infection outbreak.
