Description
The ViPrimePLUS Shewanella putrefaciens qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Shewanella putrefaciens genomes in clinical (e.g. blood), seafood and water samples.
Shewanella putrefaciens is a Gram negative bacterium which causes opportunistic infection, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Its natural habitat is in the marine environment, favoring warm climate. Infection with the pathogen usually causes skin ulceration and soft tissue infection. In more severe cases, hepatobiliary disease, fatal peritonitis, necrotizing fasciitis and bacteremia may occur, causing devastating damage. Most of the Shewanella infections can be treated by a combination of surgical therapy, drainage and antibiotics.
