Description
The ViPrimePLUS Enterovirus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Enterovirus genome in clinical samples (e.g. respiratory fluids, faeces and cerebrospinal fluids).
Enterovirus defines a group of 8 subgenera of single-stranded RNA viruses of the Picornaviridae family. There are 5 subgenera of viruses, which infects human, manifesting various neurological, heart and gastrointestinal diseases. Poliovirus causes poliomyelitis that damages the motor neurons, thus resulting in paralysis. This virus has been eradicated in many countries via vaccination program. Coxsackie virus is the common cause of viral heart disease. It was categorized into 2 serotypes, i.e. group A and group B. Group A viruses can cause Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (HFMD) in children, aside from flaccid paralysis of cardiac muscles. Group B however, causes myocarditis, pericarditis, and meningoencephalitis. Enteroviruses also cause HFMD in children, while echoviruses cause acute febrile illness in small children. The mode of transmission of these viruses is via fecal-oral route, respiratory droplets or bodily fluids.
