Description
The ViPrimePLUS Human Herpes Virus 5 qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Human Herpes Virus 5 genome in clinical samples (e.g. blood, saliva and urine).
Human Herpes virus (HHV) is classified into 8 subtypes with each of them manifesting different disease implications. Human Herpes virus 5 (HHV5) is also known as Cytomegalovirus (CMV). About 50-80% of people are infected by the virus at some point in their lives. The virus attacks by disrupting the cytoskeleton of the cells, causing cell enlargement. However, it rarely causes illness in healthy individuals as it usually resides in the body in inactive form. Activation may be due to weakened immune system causing symptoms like pneumonia and fever. Congenital CMV infection is most concerned effect as it results in newborns with small body and damage in the liver, spleen or lungs. Some may suffer from jaundice, seizures and hearing, visual and mental defects. Transmission is via contact with infected children who are more likely to shed the virus in their bodily fluids and sexual intercourse with *****s who is shedding the virus.
