Description
The ViPrimePLUS Human Herpes Virus 4 qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Human Herpes Virus 4 genome in clinical samples (e.g. blood and vesicles fluid).
Human Herpes virus (HHV) is classified into 8 subtypes with each of them manifesting different disease implications. Human Herpes virus 4 (HHV4) which is also known as Epstein-Barr virus, is a very common human virus and is transmitted from person-to-person via saliva. The virus causes infectious mononucleosis with symptoms like fever, sore throat and swollen lymph nodes. However, the infection will only last for 1-2months and rarely fatal. Like all HHVs, Epstein-Barr cannot be fully cleared from the body. It stayed dormant in the cells in the throat and blood forever. Periodically, the virus is reactivated without any symptoms. Recent studies showed the association of the virus to the development of two rare cancers, i.e. Burkitt's lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma and multiple sclerosis in very few carriers at the later stage. However, it may not be the sole cause.
