Description
The ViPrimePLUS Human Rotavirus B RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Human Rotavirus B genome in clinical samples (e.g. stool), contaminated food samples and environmental water samples.
Rotavirus is a double-stranded RNA virus, which is subdivided into group A to G. Group A, B and C are the most relevant to human, which cause severe acute diarrhoea when infected. Particularly in developing countries, rotavirus gastroenteritis is the major cause of mortality and morbidity among young children. Due to the viral stability in the environment, transmission occurs through ingesting contaminated food and water. The characteristics of the disease are vomiting and watery diarrhoea for 3-8 days, i.e. self-limiting, fever and abdominal pain. Primary infection does not provide complete immunity, however repeat infection tends to be less severe. Vaccination is currently available to cope with the viral infections.
