Description
The ViPrimePLUS Aleutian Disease Virus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Aleutian Disease Virus genome in the urine, saliva, blood or faeces of mink or ferrets.
Aleutian Disease Virus (AIDV) is a single-stranded DNA parvovirus that causes infection in mink and ferrets. Human infection is rare, although there are reported cases. Acute disease manifests itself as a lytic infection of rapidly dividing cells; chronic disease reflects a restricted or abortive infection of specific cell types. The infection may stimulate the inflammatory response of the animal, resulting in haematopoietic and urinary derangement. The modes of transmission are via aerosol route or direct contact with bodily fluids and contaminated surfaces. Infected ferrets can be asymptomatic carriers for several years. Once the virus interferes with the host immune system, it causes chronic latent infection by triggering the inflammatory responses at multiple organ sites. This made the hosts more prone to secondary infections.
