Description
The ViPrimePLUS Equine Infectious Anaemia Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection Equine Infectious Anaemia Virus genome in peripheral blood and serum samples.
Equine infectious anaemia virus (EIAV) is a RNA virus that causes Swamp Fever in the members of the equid family, including horses, mules and donkeys. Horizontal transmission of the infection is via blood sucking flies and mosquitoes, while vertical transmission is possible, too as the virus can cross the placental barrier. Symptoms of the acute infection are recurrent fever episodes, weight loss, depression, anemia and edema. In the chronic stage, the infection tends to become inapparent and finally leads to a prolonged asymptomatic period, where the infected horses remain as viremic carriers for life. Thus, real time PCR technique can be a suitable to screen for these animals. Currently, vaccination is not available in the market.
