Description
The ViPrimePLUS Enterocytozoon bieneusi qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Enterocytozoon bieneusi genomes in stool samples.
Enterocytozoon bieneusi is a microsporidial pathogen for both humans and animals which causes diarrhea, particularly in immunocompromised patients such as organ transplant recipients, children, and elderly. Hepatobiliary and pulmonary tract infection are also observed. The E. bieneusi spores are hardy and can survive under harsh environment condition. Thus, aside from zoonotic transmission, waterborne transmission is possible, too as the microspores have been detected in ground, surface, ditch, and crop irrigation water sources. More than 90 genotypes have been identified in a diversity of hosts via internal transcribed sequence. A molecular epidemiology study showed that there are 34 human-exclusive genotypes, while another 11 genotypes are zoonotic and non-host specific as they were found in both human and animals.
