Description
The ViPrimePLUS Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus – US Genotype RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus – US genotype genome in clinical samples such as blood, respiratory samples, saliva, urine, milk and faeces.
Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV) is an RNA virus which causes one of the most economically significant fatal swine diseases worldwide. There are two isolates identified; 1) PRRSV – US genotype, which emerged in North America in 1987, and 2) PRRSV – European genotypes, which emerged in the Western Europe in 1990. These two genotypes are only 55-70% identical at the nucleotide level. The increasing diversity among strains of the 2 genotypes found is due to the high error rate inherent in PRRSV replication. The modes of transmission include inhalation, ingestion, sexual transmission and parenteral exposure. As suggested in the name PRRS, the diseased pigs suffer from reproduction complications, which result in premature or late farrowing, stillborn and weak piglets, and late-stage abortion. Infected piglets and young pigs may suffer from respiratory syndrome that is recognized by dyspnoea (thumping), fever, anorexia, and restlessness. They are susceptible to secondary infection and the mortality rate is high.
