Description
The ViPrimePLUS Porcine Circovirus 1 qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Porcine Circovirus 1 genome in blood and tissues.
Porcine Circovirus (PCV) is a very small circular DNA virus that widely infects pigs. They are classified into PCV1 and PCV2, which differ in the ORF2 region that encodes for Cap. PCV1 was first discovered as a contaminant in a pig kidney cell line and it is a commonly present swine virus which has no known disease caused. Infection with PCV2 may cause typical PCVD lesions. Some PCV2 infected pigs may also develop the PCV-associated diseases (PCVAD) such as severe systemic PCV2 infection and Post-weaning Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome (PMWS), PCV2-associated pneumonia as part of the Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC), PCV2-associated enteritis, PCV2-associated reproductive failure, and Porcine Dermatitis and Nephropathy Syndrome (PDNS). The symptoms of PCVAD develop slowly and progressively, and are often fatal, causing significant economic losses to pig producers worldwide. Vaccines are currently available to pig farms as a prevention measure.
