Description
The ViPrimePLUS Trypanosoma evansi qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Trypanosoma evansi genome in clinical sample such as blood.
Trypanosoma evansi is the causative agent for trypanosomosis, also known as ‘surra’ disease in various wild and domesticated animals, particularly in Asia, Africa and Central and South America. Buffalo, cattle, camels and horses are the primary hosts for the pathogen. This protozoan is mainly transmitted via arthropods. Clinical signs of the disease include pyrexia, parasitemia, progressive anemia, loss of condition and lethargy. Edema at the lower body parts, haemorrhage of serous membrane and neurological signs may be observed in infected horses, while abortion in camels and buffalos. Trypanosomal DNA can be detected in animals with active infections (not more than 1-2days). Chronic infection may persist for years. The first case of human infection was reported in India, associating to 5-months febrile episodes. However, the pathogen is not known as zoonotic.
ViPrimePLUS Trypanosoma evansi qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
