Description
The ViPrimePLUS Peste-des-petits-ruminants Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Peste-des-petits-ruminants Virus (PPRV) genome in discharge from eyes, nose and mouth, stool and blood samples.
Peste-des-petits-ruminant disease is a highly contagious disease that often affects goats and sheep but no symptoms in cattle. PPRV is a single stranded RNA virus that is transmitted via aerosol, direct contact and contaminated feed. The virus is shed in secretion and excretion of the infected animals. There are 3 manifestation of the disease, i.e. acute, peracute and subacute forms. The sudden onset of fever, depression and watery discharge are common signs of infection followed by diarrhea, breathing difficulty and pneumonia. In later stage, formation of small nodular lesions in skin and around the muzzle can be observed. Mortality rate in susceptible animal populations can vary from 50-100%, making it as one of the most economically significant veterinary pathogens for small ruminants.
