Description
The ViPrimePLUS Capripoxvirus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Capripoxvirus genome in the saliva, conjunctival secretions, milk, skin lesions and scabs of cattle, sheep and goats.
Capripoxvirus genus comprises of 3 closely related DNA viruses; 1) goat pox virus (GTPV), 2) sheep pox virus (SPPV) and 3) lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV). These viruses cause significance losses in the livestock industries globally. GTPV and SPPV are endemic to Asia and Southern Africa, while LSDV is confined to sub-Saharan Africa. Infection with GTPV and SPPV are characterized by fever, generalised papules or nodules, internal lesions (particularly in the lungs), and death of sheep and goats. They are transmitted via aerosol route. In endemic areas, the mortality rate is usually less than 10%. However, 100% fatality rate can occur in the young ones. Infection with LSDV in cattle brings symptoms such as fever, discharge from the eyes and nose, nodular, necrotic skin lesions, edema of the limbs, and swollen lymph nodes. It is transmitted predominantly via insect vectors. The mortality rate varies between 20% and 85% and most of the recovered animals develop a lifelong immunity.
