Description
The ViPrimePLUS Campylobacter fetus-venerialis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Campylobacter fetus-venerialis genome in genital swab, semen and aborted fetus.
Campylobacter fetus is a Gram negative bacterium that causes abortion in bovine. It consists of two closely related subspecies; 1) C. fetus subsp. venerealis, and 2) C. fetus, which differs epidemiological and in their clinical importance. C. fetus subsp. venerealis is responsible for bovine genital campylobacteriosis, which is associated with endemic abortion, early embryonic death and infertility. It is found in the genital tract and semen, indicating that the pathogen is sexually transmissible. C. fetus subsp. fetus however, causes sporadic abortion and it normally resides in the intestinal tract. Thus, the mode of transmission is usually via ingestion of contaminated food. It is also recognized as a human opportunistic pathogen, infecting pregnant ladies or immunocompromised patients, causing systemic neurological and vascular complications. Vaccination is available for the organisms.
