Description
The ViPrimePLUS Newcastle Disease Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Newcastle Disease Virus genome in blood and oronasal swab samples.
Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is a single stranded RNA virus which infects birds, thus posing a major threat to the poultry industries and public health. Transmission is mainly via contact with infected birds secretions and faeces. There are 3 strains being recognized by its virulence; 1) velogenic (highly virulent), 2) mesogenic (intermediate virulence), and 3) lentogenic (mild virulence). Clinical signs of infection vary dependent on the pathotypes. The lentogenic strain may cause mild respiratory symptoms, while the mesogenic type may cause acute respiratory and neurologic diseases. Infection by velogenic strain may produce more severe neurological defects, damaged digestive system dropped in egg production, and eventually lead to death if left untreated. Exposure of infection to humans may not posed significant health hazards, but incidences of conjunctivitis and flu-like symptoms are reported.
