Description
The ViPrimePLUS Mycoplasma gallisepticum qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Mycoplasma gallisepticum genome in clinical samples (e.g. respiratory swab, eye swab).
Mycoplasma gallisepticum is a poultry pathogen which causes chronic respiratory disease in chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, game birds, pigeons and other wild birds. Infected turkey is usually associated with severe sinusitis. M. gallisepticum can survive up to 2 months. Transmission is via ingesting contaminated water and food, while direct contact with birds or formites, aerosol and transovarian are observed too. The slow spreading nature of the disease indicates that aerosol is not the primary route of transmission. The bacteria are shed in the form of nasal discharge and eye exudates, which is highly infectious. Symptoms of the infection include weight loss, persistent cough, sneezing, and decrease of egg production. The symptoms can last for several weeks and the mortality rate can reach up to 60%.
